Prescribe with confidence.
Full electronic prescribing integrated directly into your encounter workflow. Search medications, check interactions, verify insurance coverage, and transmit to any pharmacy in the national network — all without leaving the chart.
Controlled substances, prior authorizations, refill management, and real-time prescription benefits. Everything you need to prescribe safely and efficiently, built into one system.
How It Works
From medication search to pharmacy delivery.
Prescribers have full choice over medication selection. Patients designate their preferred pharmacy. Six steps, one integrated workflow.
Search & Select Medication
Clinicians search the complete drug database by name, strength, or form. Favorites with pre-filled details let you prescribe common medications in seconds. Compound, freetext, and supply prescriptions are all supported.
Configure Prescription Details
Set directions, quantity, refills, days supply, and effective date. Toggle no-substitution, add ICD-10 diagnosis codes, and include pharmacist notes — all from a single form.
Real-Time Benefits Check
Automatically check the patient's insurance coverage before sending. See copay amounts, formulary status, tier level, and whether prior authorization or step therapy is required. Therapeutic alternatives are surfaced when better coverage is available.
Safety Verification
Drug-drug interactions, allergy conflicts, and dosing concerns are checked automatically. Major interactions require explicit acknowledgment. Minor and moderate alerts are shown for awareness without blocking the workflow.
Choose Pharmacy
The patient's preferred pharmacies are displayed for quick selection. Need a different pharmacy? Search by name, city, state, or ZIP to find any retail, mail-order, or specialty pharmacy in the national network.
Review & Send
Review the complete prescription summary — medication, directions, pharmacy, and diagnosis — before transmitting. Controlled substances go through secure EPCS signing with PIN and two-factor authentication.
Pharmacy Network
Connected to the national pharmacy network.
Prescriptions are transmitted electronically through the Surescripts network to over 70,000 pharmacies nationwide. Retail chains, independent pharmacies, mail-order, and specialty — all accessible from the same interface.
Patients designate their preferred pharmacy, and prescribers can send to any pharmacy in the network. Pharmacy details including name, address, phone, and specialties are displayed for every search result so patients and prescribers can make informed choices.
Retail pharmacies
National chains and independent pharmacies across every state. Patients choose their preferred local pharmacy.
Mail-order pharmacies
Home delivery options for maintenance medications. Patients can designate a mail-order pharmacy for ongoing prescriptions.
Specialty pharmacies
Access to specialty pharmacies for complex medications that require special handling, storage, or clinical support.
Patient pharmacy choice
Preferred pharmacy on file
Each patient can have a primary pharmacy and alternates saved to their profile. The preferred pharmacy is pre-selected when prescribing.
Search any pharmacy
Search by pharmacy name, city, state, or ZIP code. Full pharmacy details — address, phone, fax, and specialties — are shown for every result.
Change pharmacy anytime
Patients can request a pharmacy change on any active prescription. Prescribers can redirect a prescription to a different pharmacy after it's been sent.
Drug Safety
Five layers of safety before every prescription.
Drug interactions, allergy conflicts, PDMP data, formulary coverage, and dose validation — checked automatically as part of the prescribing workflow.
Drug-drug interaction screening
Every prescription is checked against the patient's current medications. Interactions are severity-coded as major, moderate, or minor with clear clinical descriptions.
Allergy conflict detection
Coded and freetext allergies are maintained on each patient record and synchronized automatically — when an allergy is added, updated, or removed, the change is reflected in real time. Every prescription is screened against the current allergy profile before transmission.
PDMP integration
Access Prescription Drug Monitoring Program data at the point of prescribing. NarxCare risk scores are displayed with color-coded severity to support informed prescribing decisions.
Formulary & benefits verification
Real-time formulary lookup shows coverage status, tier level, and patient cost sharing. When a drug is non-formulary, therapeutically equivalent alternatives with better coverage are suggested.
Dose completeness validation
Required fields are enforced before transmission. Quantity precision, days supply, and structured directions are validated to prevent pharmacy callbacks and rejected prescriptions.
No-substitution & DAW controls
Prescribers can explicitly mark prescriptions as Dispense As Written when clinical judgment requires a specific formulation. The flag is transmitted directly to the pharmacy.
EPCS
Electronic prescribing for controlled substances.
Prescribe Schedule II through V medications electronically with full DEA compliance. Identity proofing, two-factor authentication, and complete audit trails are built in — not bolted on.
NADEAN support for buprenorphine prescribing and DATA 2000 waiver tracking are included. Schedule II prescriptions support future effective dates and Dispense As Written requirements automatically.
Identity proofing
Clinicians complete a verified identity proofing process before prescribing controlled substances, meeting all DEA requirements.
PIN + two-factor authentication
Every controlled substance prescription requires a secure PIN entry followed by mobile two-factor authentication via push notification.
Schedule II–V support
Prescribe all controlled substance schedules electronically. Schedule II prescriptions support future effective dates and Dispense As Written requirements.
Audit trail & compliance
Complete audit trail for every controlled substance prescription — from identity verification through pharmacy transmission and dispensing confirmation.
Refills & Communication
Two-way pharmacy communication.
Refill requests, prescription change requests, and status updates flow directly between your EHR and the pharmacy. No phone tag, no faxes, no manual re-entry.
When a pharmacy fills, partially fills, or cancels a medication, the patient's record updates automatically. Allergy changes, pharmacy preference updates, and prior authorization responses all sync back in real time — so the chart always matches what's happening at the pharmacy.
Pharmacy refill requests
When a pharmacy requests a refill on behalf of a patient, the request appears in a dedicated queue. Approve, deny with a documented reason, or replace with an updated prescription.
Prescription change requests
Pharmacies can request generic substitutions, therapeutic alternatives, or script clarifications. Each request type has a structured review workflow with side-by-side comparison of the original and proposed medication.
Real-time medication status updates
Pharmacies push fill status back automatically — fully filled, partially filled, not filled, discontinued, cancelled, or completed. Patient medication records update in real time without manual entry, so the chart always reflects what the pharmacy has actually dispensed.
Patient refill requests
Patients request refills directly from their portal. Requests route to the prescriber's refill queue for review and approval without phone calls or faxes.
Real-time pharmacy notifications
Prescription results, medication fill updates, allergy changes, pharmacy selections, and prior authorization responses are all pushed to Notive in real time. No polling, no manual checks — the chart updates automatically as events happen at the pharmacy.
Bidirectional data sync
Patient allergies, medication status, and pharmacy preferences stay synchronized between Notive and the pharmacy network. Changes on either side are reflected immediately, keeping prescribers working with current data.
Prior Authorization
Prior auth, handled in your workflow.
When a prescription requires prior authorization, the entire process — from detection through approval or appeal — stays inside Notive. No separate portals, no phone queues.
Automatic PA detection
The system identifies when a prescribed medication requires prior authorization based on the patient's insurance plan.
Structured question workflows
PA questions from the payer are presented in a guided workflow. Answer individually or in bulk, with support for document attachments.
Real-time status tracking
Track PA cases from initiation through approval or denial. Status updates, timeline history, and appeal workflows are all managed in one place.
Clinical documentation support
Attach supporting clinical documents — lab results, imaging reports, and clinical notes — directly to PA cases to strengthen approval.
Medication History
A medication list that stays current automatically.
Pull comprehensive medication history from pharmacies and hospital systems with patient consent. As pharmacies fill, partially fill, or discontinue medications, the patient's record updates automatically — no manual reconciliation needed.
Self-reported medications from the patient portal are reconciled alongside dispensed data so prescribers always have the complete picture at the point of care. Allergy records stay in sync the same way — additions, edits, and removals are reflected in real time across the system.
Auto-updated medication status
Pharmacy fill events — fully filled, partially filled, not filled, discontinued, cancelled — update the patient's medication list automatically.
Real-time allergy sync
Allergy additions, edits, and removals are synchronized automatically. The allergy profile used for interaction screening is always current.
Patient self-reported medications
Patients add OTC medications, supplements, and non-pharmacy prescriptions from their portal. Changes sync back in real time.
Medication reconciliation
Side-by-side view of dispensed, pharmacy-reported, and self-reported medications for clinical review.
Prescription audit trail
Full log of every prescription — creation, transmission, pharmacy verification, fill status, and every status change from the pharmacy.
Patient prescription portal
Patients access their complete prescription history, request refills, and view medication details from a secure portal — available on any device.
